WE’VE BEEN DOING CAREERS BACKWARDS

I've been thinking about this a lot lately, and actually, this was always something I knew, but maybe I wasn't saying it loud enough.

I think we've been doing careers backwards.

We spend so much time asking women what they want to do next.

What job should I go for?

Should I retrain?

Should I stay where I am?

Should I start a business?

What am I qualified for?

What makes sense?

But what if we're starting in completely the wrong place?

I keep talking to women who have built really successful careers and yet find themselves quietly thinking, I don't know if I can keep doing this.

Themes that keep coming up are:-

burn out, boredem, unfulfilled or disconnected.

These are not things we would ignore in our loved ones but when the subject is us ....well we keep on going.

And that can be a really uncomfortable place to be when you've spent years being the strong one.

You're good at making things work. You're good at pushing through.

You're good at adapting, taking responsibility, looking after everyone else and getting the job done.

So when something doesn't feel right, your instinct is often to fix it.

Find the next job. Make a plan. Work harder. Figure it out.

There is a question we don't ask nearly enough.

Does the career you built still fit the woman you've become?

Because the career that was right for you 10 or 20 years ago may have made perfect sense then.

You were a different person, with different priorities, different responsibilities, different dreams.

I wonder when was the was the last time you actually checked in with yourself?

Not with your CV. Not with your salary. Not with what looks sensible on paper.

With you.

And I think this is where it gets really difficult.

Because you don't necessarily want to throw your career away.

You have experience, credibility, financial security, relationships, a reputation and a life you've worked bloody hard to build.

You just don't want to keep living a version of success that no longer feels like yours.

Perhaps the thing you're most afraid of isn't changing.

It's making another decision that looks completely right on paper, only to find yourself in exactly the same place a year or two later.

That's why I believe we need to do careers differently.

Before we decide what's next, we need to make sure we're actually in the decision.

We need to understand what has been driving our choices, recognise the patterns that keep pulling us back into the same place, reconnect with who we are now and work out what we actually want from this next chapter.

Then we can look at what we've already built and ask a much better question:

How can I create what's next without leaving myself behind?

This is the thinking behind Success That Includes You.

All of my clients go on to change jobs, create their dream career, launch their business or grow what they've already built.

And here's the thing. I've often never seen their CV or LinkedIn profile, and we haven't sat down and gone through every skill and piece of experience they've collected over the years.

Because this work starts somewhere else.

It's about creating the next chapter that suits you, satisfies your desires, helps you create the life you want and stops leaving you out of the equation.

When you start working from Identity towards Career, you make career decisions from who you are now, rather than trying to fit yourself into what looks right on paper.

And that changes things.

You can move towards what you actually want, without constantly finding yourself back in the same place, exhausted, disconnected or wondering how you've ended up feeling lost in your own life.

Success That Includes You Group Coaching is for women who know they've been doing careers backwards and are ready to do it differently.

There’s no pre-recorded course, no giant to-do list and no new strategy that works beautifully for everyone else and might work for you.

This is a blend of private and group coaching, so you get the best of both worlds, along with coaching tools and frameworks you can keep using long after the programme has finished.

We'll spend eight weeks doing this work together, with six live group coaching sessions and private 1:1 coaching with me at the beginning and end.

There will only be 6–8 women in the group because I want it to feel personal, supportive and properly useful.

And I LOVE the power that comes from women doing this together.

That moment when someone says something you've been feeling for months and you think, Oh my God. It's not just me.

The encouragement. The perspective. The energy of women figuring this out alongside each other.

The next group starts the week commencing 30 November, with Early Bird places at £595 until 31 October. (£100 off - Limited Spaces)

If you've been successful but you're exhausted, if something needs to change but you can't quite see what, or if you've realised that the life you built doesn't quite fit the woman you are now...

Maybe it's time to stop asking what should I do next?

And start with you. 💛
